Terms and Conditions

Please read these terms carefully before using Shot in the Dark Dating.

Last updated: July 25, 2026

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Shot in the Dark Dating (the "Service"), operated by Shot In The Dark ("we," "us," "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the Service. By registering, you represent and warrant that you are 18 or older and that all information you provide is accurate and truthful.

2. Prohibited Conduct — Trafficking, Exploitation, and Abuse

Shot in the Dark Dating strictly prohibits human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and any use of the Service to recruit, solicit, coerce, or exploit any person for trafficking, prostitution, or non-consensual sexual activity. We also strictly prohibit aiding, abetting, or encouraging abuse of any kind — including physical, sexual, financial, or emotional abuse — through use of the Service. Any account found engaging in or facilitating this conduct will be immediately terminated, and we will cooperate fully with law enforcement (see our Law Enforcement Requests page).

If you believe someone is using this Service to exploit, traffic, or harm another person, please contact us immediately at shotinthedarkdating@aol.com, or contact local law enforcement or the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888.

3. Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM)

Shot in the Dark Dating has zero tolerance for Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) or any content, communication, or conduct that sexualizes, exploits, or endangers a minor. All members must be 18 or older to use the Service. If we become aware of any CSAM on the Service, we will immediately remove the content, terminate the associated account, preserve relevant evidence, and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's CyberTipline (report.cybertip.org) and to law enforcement, as required by law.

If you become aware of CSAM or suspect a minor is using the Service, please contact us immediately at shotinthedarkdating@aol.com. Do not attempt to investigate, download, or share suspected CSAM yourself — report it and let us and the appropriate authorities handle it.

4. Your Safety

Shot in the Dark Dating uses a combination of AI-assisted analysis and human review to suggest matches based on questionnaire responses, but we do not conduct criminal background checks or identity verification on members beyond what is stated at signup. You are responsible for exercising your own judgment and caution when communicating with or meeting other members. We recommend meeting new matches in public places, telling a friend or family member your plans, and never sending money or financial information to another member.

5. The Matchmaking Service

Membership gives you access to our personality-based matchmaking process: you complete a questionnaire, our systems use AI to help narrow candidates to a shortlist, and our matchmaking team personally reviews that shortlist and selects the match or matches we believe are the best fit. A human being always makes the final matchmaking decision. We do not guarantee that you will be matched with any particular person, within any particular timeframe, or that any match will result in a relationship.

6. Memberships, Billing, and Cancellation

Memberships are billed on a recurring monthly basis through our payment processor, Stripe. New members may receive a free trial period as described at signup. You may cancel or change your membership at any time through your account dashboard. See our Refund Policy for full details on billing, upgrades, downgrades, and cancellations.

7. Acceptable Use

Use of the Service is also governed by our Acceptable Use Policy, which describes conduct that is not allowed on the Service, including harassment, impersonation, fraud, and misuse of other members' information.

8. Account Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms, our Acceptable Use Policy, or applicable law, or if your conduct poses a risk to another member's safety.

9. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee compatibility, safety, or outcomes between members. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Shot In The Dark is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service or your interactions with other members, including in-person meetings arranged through the Service.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to conflict of law principles.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Contact

Questions about these Terms can be sent to shotinthedarkdating@aol.com, or see our full Contact page.
